Gelli-Printing
Beginner Level Gelli-Printing Workshop
with Tikitut 2023
Introduction
Kotte conducted a Gelli-printing workshop, in collaboration Tikitut, for school children, in the autumn break of 2023 (höstlov). Children were introduced to the Gelli-printing technique using DIY Gelli plates, leaves, branches, and other natural material collected from outdoors.
The aim of the workshop was to introduce an expensive, "fine art" technique in an affordable, approachable way to an audience that may not have been exposed to this technique before.
Workshop Overview
Gelli-printing is a process by which a plate (made of a gelli) is used to make a positive from which a negative image will be printed onto paper or another material. Using found objects from nature, and paint, we created unique designs on the gelli, and placed paper on top to create artworks.

Review
The children were excited to learn about such a technique, and that it was so easy to do at home. There was a lot of experimentation and exploration going on, which resulted in many variations of artwork by each child that participated.
The gelli's that were made for this workshop ended up being destroyed throughout the workshop's duration, due to the sensitivity of the medium. The children were very excited to work with the gelli, and could not contain themselves. However, the destruction resulted in unique prints and results that are also part of the process.
